i had the same issue and i just put on v brakes...

i had the same issue and i just put on v brakes on anyway. you can easily install a v brake on a bike that had cantilevers on it.

nashbar has a single speed kit for around $30, thats what i use on my late eighties rockhopper. im not so sure how that would work for actualt rail use though.
