Thanks for the tips and perspective! My wife will be a good motivator on her own, as she has a great habit of stick-to-it-iveness. I got a treadmill a few years ago (as many folks do) and never...

I'm fine with starting with something of good quality that works for me now and then upgrading as I improve. That's actually pretty logical, if you ask me. I'm a musician on the side as well, and...

Thanks! I'll have to have a look at those brands when we get helmets. The XL Specialized helmet was the largest they had in the shop, but that's also the only helmet brand they carried. I will say...

I'm checking into the Jamis dealer in town now. They rent bikes near a popular bike path here, so I inquired as to what bikes the rental ones are.

Thanks. And yeah, I kinda realize I'm a bit scatterbrained. I'm new to all of this "real" biking (as opposed to casual riding as a kid). I've had plenty of folks say a hybrid is good for what we'd...

So what are folks' feelings on the Trek 820? 36 spokes and a steel frame, so those are positives. The Bontrager AT-550's are single wall rims, though, and I've seen sort of mixed reviews on them....

Thanks. I'm pretty much coming to terms with the fact that I'll need a beefier rear wheel. If I can find something stock with 36 spokes that's double-walled already, I'll consider that bike, but...
