I just got a call back from my dealer. Apparently the original crank was an OEM and not available aftermarket.

They said Trek tech...

I am riding a Trek verve 3 2017 model(no suspension) the previous years models had suspension fork. It's a hybrid with 700x45 tires.

I am as heavy as your cousin and have had no problems. Granted...

I think the 3 vs 2 is just a matter of slightly better components . If you look at the verve line on the Trek site it lists the upgrades from model to model. Pull up a Verve 2 and scroll all the way...

I got the 2017 model. Solid front fork. It was only like $40 more that previous years and I've been told to avoid suspensions at our size.

Near you in size and got the same recommendation from my Trek dealer. I even called Trek and asked the rep a couple of questions. He too was recommending the Verve 3. I bought it and couldn't be...
