I spent the savings on better wheels (although the Aksiums are good trainers).

I was convinced Carbon was the way too...

I just auditioned them with a monster 220v KRELL 'coffee table' and a SME phono and I almost think it would be worth it... of course, YMMV.

PS-they sounded frighteningly...

Have you considered the Allez Comp? It has the nicer frame (carbon stays, Zertz) and better components. It lists for 1700 but I got mine at an end of season sale for 1299 (YMMV but should be close...

I test the F75/65 and the Specialized Gerolsteiner Allez Comp (FULL 105) and ended up with the Allez. Both road nice, but the Specialized just felt, well, faster. YMMV.
