Your other bikes are probably 26" "mountain bike"...

Your other bikes are probably 26" "mountain bike" aka 559 rims and the Raleigh is 26" old 3 speed aka 590 rims. So 31 mm difference in rim height or close to an inch! I like the back rack!

To me the ride on a 3 speed isn't "bland" but more of an "automatic-pilot", because when I ride mine, I enjoy the sights/sounds and not have to think about the bike. :D

I'm a believer in 3rd is cruise, 2nd is for hills/headwinds, and 1rst is for bighills, I'm tired/lazy, or really want to go slow.

I think the "bracket" is so both the riders could steer! So the front rider could ride hands free OR the stoker could share control of the bike.... puts a whole new spin on "back seat driving"
