If the pump's check valve is working it will do the same as the Presta valve does, WRT what pressure in in the pump before any compression stroke is started. Andy

Bolded- And that extra pressure is provided by the air chuck's center peg/post, not by any higher pump pressures. Not yet mentioned is that with a Schrader valve the air from the tube can leak out...
