I have a '91 750 True Temper bare frame (58cm C2C seat & top tube) that weighs 5.18 lbs.
That's the same as a similarly-sized Tenax-tubed '88 Schwinn Super Sport.

I've had good luck cutting the section off that protrudes out the back, then using a needle-nose to unscrew it from the dropout slot.
