Looks like an older style hybrid. Just whatever shifter/crankset/FD you choose make sure they are either MTB or road style, since mixing a MTB shifter with a road FD may present some indexing issues...

In all honestly it's probably not worth your while to upgrade to a triple. You'd need a triple front derailleur and left-side shifter, along with the crankset. It'll end up costing you around $150...
