Right- that's what I was getting at. When you choose a CF product and specify UD or 3K, etc. it's only refering to the "finishing layer"- because (for instance) you wouldn't want your whole bicycle...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when ordering a frame, the UD/3K/12K is just talking about the top superficial layer or "finishing wrap"; which is really just for looks, right?

If I were to ever decide to get another modern CF bike (Not likely!) I would go the Chinese route. I'd use part of the money I saved on doing a nice custom paint job.

Unless the CF bike weighs 15 lbs. and the steel bike weighs 35 lbs.....it ain't the frame/material/weight accounting for 2MPH......
