There's lots of 5600's but those aren't compatible from what I read. Those you could set as a 2 or 3sp on the front, but construction is poor and often break.
st-5601 is only for 2sp.

LBS didn't have too much insight, just impressed with the disassembly! They tried to find the replacement part for this as well, no luck... They said Shimano doesn't like to keep a ton of spare parts...

To add complexity, the rear dropouts/chain stay part needs to be in place while pressing on the bearings. That is why the bearings were pulled. The parts do look new, it was in the bag from the LBS....
