I use a triple, ususally geared like a double with a bail-out: 50/39/24 and 48/38/22.

I don't always use the bail-out gear, but when I do I'm very glad I've got it.

I ride starting at 5:40am and I too really like riding then. Get good lights (including backups) and it's a very peaceful way to ride. Low traffic, much quieter.

The only issue I've ever had was...

I've got two sets of wheels for my 20" folder. I really like having studded tires when I need them and I like being able to just swap wheels.

It's when I'm walking in my shoes that they get wet (I ride to the train station and walk at the other end).

I was trying to avoid puddles, but my feet were completely soaked.

My current shoes are water-resistant enough on the top, but the bottoms just leak horribly.

Waterproof clipless shoes/boots

Hi,

I'm looking for waterproof spd shoes/boots. I've got Giro Alpineduro and they leak horribly where the cleats attach when I walk in the rain.

Any recommendations?

Thanks, Charles

I really liked mine until the chain fell off while I was riding and I almost broke a rib.

After that, I just don't trust it anymore. It's a cute idea, but not quite there yet.

My 10 year old daughter can easily ride 7 miles on her 16" Citizen folder.

I don't see why anybody older should have any problems after building up to it (assuming not ridiculous hills :) )
