I'd hafta use too small a cog, where it can cause chain slippage. In other words, I don't feel comfortable running a 13 or 14t cog in the rear, especially when i'm gonna be commuting in nasty weather...

This method worked perfectly! I undid the brake cables (just from the levers), loosened the two stem bolts, and rotated the forks. Re-attached the brakes to the levers, and voila - looks much better...

It's all OK I reckon. I lined the chains up to begin with so I could remove links to make the blue the same length as the other one. But it was crazy tight and clearly wasn't gonna work at that...
