I just wanted to use modern bars and stems. It was also an experiment to see if it's possible to make modern stem and bar combos look right on a vintage frame. I'm pretty happy with the result.

You are correct. In my case, the spacer only really slides onto the 4mm of shim left over from the X2 stem. It's really just sitting on that and the bottom of the spacer is not technically touching...

you can tell if the bb is loose if you feel some play when standing on the pedals. The best way to find out is to take the cranks off and check the torque on both sides of the bb.
