I sold those new in 1988. That was the entry level version. Raleigh used the French hubs on that model and the Deore version. Both were using freewheels. Only the XT version got Japanese...

There may not have been any dedicated top pull derailleurs at the time. My memory is a bit fuzzy. I vaguely recall some that had a pulley on the back...

Looks like a personal project. Lots (LOTS!) of brass on the joints, but also some voids in the brass, particularly on the left chainstay/BB shell joint. Nonetheless, I like it.
