so john allen at sheldon's site suggests it is the fr-6 that removes the 8 notch ST BBs. but i have an fr-6 and this is clearly not correct...

that is to say: i'm sure it is adjustable cup and cone. it's an old bottom bracket. it looks like the newer shimano octolink stuff but that's just a superficial resemblance.
