Don't use a metal razor blade (I did and it scratched the clear coat), try to find a plastic putty scraper, add heat. Use some sort of solvent to get rid of the glue gunk, but nothing too harsh....

Any tire that isn't insanely cheap and heavy would probably do. Lighter is better for climbing (at the expense of durability occasionally), and try get get kevlar beads over wire.
