Aerodynamic wheels - compared to what exactly?

I haven't shopped for new wheels in few years. Looking for a new set of hoops for a new Cervelo R2. Training and group rides and the odd event. Rolling terrain in a generally windy area. It's...

Wow you must have a lot of natural protection of all your internal organs and femoral arteries if your skull is the most vulnerable part of your body. When a lifted pickup hits you, it doesn't aim...

If so might be time to start advocating for speed limits on MUPs (we don't have speed limits here). A group going 40 kph or more on a relatively narrow MUP is dangerous.

Many of us commute on MUPs to avoid traffic. Now early morning road sessions are on the MUPs in my neck of the woods. Curious if this is a growing thing.

Are you seeing road cycling clubs on paved paths?

I'm seeing more road cycling clubs on paved MUPs (not bike lanes, but dedicated paved paths). It annoys me - they are too fast and they take up too much room. I think if you are training for road...

If you get hit by a lifted pickup a styrofoam cap won't help you. At all.

There is a great pleasure in riding without a styrofoam cap. I ride MUP's to work on a rigid bike with 2.5 tires. I...

Trek Roscoe for winter commuting?

In Alberta here - last winter I was on a rigid bike with 29 X 2.25 Ice Spiker Pros. Good for many days, but those tires are not great for mashed potatoes and rutted snow/ice on MUP's after people...

Problem here is that there is no road to cut down to. Just brown sugar, frozen ruts, slop, and sheer ice - all in one ride. Skinny tires can't make any progress. Fat tires would be useful in some...

I found last winter that 29X2.25 Ice Spikers were not great in the brown sugar, which unfortunately is predominantly at intersections and entrances to bike lanes. I've ordered 29X2.5 Maxxis Minions...

The ride is just so much better on the Miyata, but I haven't tried really supple tires on the Fargo (e.g., Soma Supple Vitesse 50mm or something like that). Maybe I'll try that first and see.

It's a 2017 GX and the frame and fork are way too stiff, just drains me riding that bike. Miyata frame is much more responsive to power inputs and doesn't beat me up.

Gravel racing a Miyata touring bike?

I'm entered in 2 gravel races this year, first ones for me. I've got a Fargo which is a meh ride, and an 86 Miyata 1000 I used for rando rides, though it's never seen gravel. It's pristine...

My thoughts on 3" tires

So I've recently installed 29X3 Maxxis Minions on my Fargo. I've never ridden a fat bike so can't compare. I use the bike for commuting mainly, few trails here and there.

At about 15-18psi they...

Send me warm thoughts today

Commute into work wasn't bad. Temperature this afternoon has dropped precipitously to -2F and wind at 22mph with blowing snow. I'm on a Fargo with 3" Minions - will be a long 10 mile ride.

Suggest a 29er tire to stud with gripstuds
