That Takara looks like a very nice frame. Crazy setback on that seatpost! With already slack angles, if it was any longer you'd be behind the dropouts.

Maybe tank is too pejorative, but the frame feels pretty heavy; it was a stock 34# bike with bolt-on wheels and a hi-ten fork. But yes, it's still a nice lugged early mtb. (Miyata tubing)....

Actually, I'm pretty sure now that it's an '88. I believe the 88 and 89 both came in this color, but the rear brake and original 6 speed cassette make it an '88.

Can't say that I have. I did a couple 30 mi rides with the stock bars; just made the change to drops and took it out for a few miles yesterday. It's pretty comfy though. And easy to spot on a bike...
