I guess to try a shorter tour with the two younger kids & see how it goes? They might love it, maybe not. Maybe combine RV & bike touring, go to central/South America for a while?

Before setting out on a tour I usually stay awake too late from nervous anticipation. A couple of times I've headed out with ~3 hours sleep but it works out OK.

I don't do mass rides, cost & schedule would be a problem but I like riding alone anyway. I never really got the concept of charity rides/walks. If folks want to give, just give & save the expense...

I use Crank Brothers Double Shot pedals on both touring bikes. The flat side has nubs vs pins so it is kind even to soft flip-flop soles; OTOH not super-grippy...I don't hop off curbs for instance.

Congrats, sounds like it was fun! Not hard to get side-tracked: sometimes road has a different name than what map seems to show, sometimes in rural areas there's few road markings etc. Phone or GPS...
