There's a secure area for bikes at my work with railings to lock bikes to. It's always a worry that your bike might get stolen so it's nice to have somewhere secure to keep it during the day.

I find it works for me to store stuff in side panniers on the back. It'll take a little getting used to on your part but it's not significantly more unstable.
