I would also say Piranha. It has lower end derailleurs compared to the Haro, but MUCH better brakes and comparable components the rest of the way around.

All the derailleur cage does is take up slack in the chain when smaller rings/cogs...

I'm not 100% positve about the new XT stuff but the past XT stuff has always been 8/9 speed compatible, and your hub will also accept both 8 or 9 speed cassettes, just differant spacers, overall...

They probably didn't have the stop screw on the derailleur properly adjusted. Once the stop is set it shouldn't come off while shifting anymore.
