My Mali from cca 1990-91. Originally came with an 550 LX grouppo. It has seen better days, but it's pristine mechanically. Fast, agile, has very good handling and the shifting is ridiculously good....

That's the bodging part. :) These '89 XT thumbies' clamps are forged aluminum, so they aren't really bendable. Therefore I took my DX thumbies' clamps (steel), bent them up, found some longer screws...
