There are no minimum standards for bike helmets...All bicycle helmets must meet the same safety standards. It does not matter what brand or how much they cost.

Availability will definitely play a part. At the same time it seems both gravel bikes and hybrids are popping up on used market as being ridden once or twice. Just harder to find and waiting for them...

I think you need to decide if you want a flatbar or dropbar bike. You can call it gravel, or whatever you want. By 'fitness' bikes, that seems to be hybrid frames (same geo as the lower end ones)...

Top tube on a flat-bar bike is going to be longer than on a drop-bar bike by a few inches, and the rest of the numbers look normal .... sort...

Buy the matched 50/34 chainrings (do NOT mix/match a 34 to a 52, it might work, it won't work well). You do not need a new crank, just new chainrings. I'd avoid the recommendations...
