I'm guessing they were anodized by the owner at some point. The color seems pale compared to the rims.

I think they're faded and dirty and maybe photographed badly as well. There is a small chance they were anodized aftermarket. Shimano never made them in gold.

Great pic and good point as well. Older road racing bikes can handle rough stuff. Most of the racing bikes I’ve seen from the 70s and earlier can handle 32c or 35c tires. A few can handle 38c tires.

malcala622 Those rims are most likely Module E rims which were ~19.8mm wide when new. They had single eyelets. The Module 3 rims were the same design except 22mm wide. See 1980 Mavic Catalog page...
