1986 Centurion Ironman (Dave Scott) - Red, 54 cm. Tange tubes. First year with the Shimano 600 SIS gear. Dia Compe brakes, Wolber rims. I think it was about $650.

Sweet ride. I still ride it once...

Also, if you can get a hold of a copy, the Velo News buyers guide (from Spring 2005) had the Comp 05' in there with a bit of a decent right up.

I would doubt very much if "stress" is anything to worry about with either of those systems. Scratching might be a legitimate concern but a sock around the top-tube should take care of that.

Pretty sure they listed at $1900 +. I've seen them for $1599 in Seattle. I rode one and liked a couple of 1900+ bikes better but for $1300 . . . that's seems like a really good deal.
