Get an adjustable stem in the length you need and experiment with different angles until you find the one that fits. Then grab a fixed stem in that size and you're good to go...

I recently added a sugino xd600 in the 46/36/26 size and it's really nice compared to my old 48/38/28. Plus at around $100.00 it won't break the bank.

The Sugino XD600 is a nice crank. It's square taper so it will fit a Trek 7--- BB. The only difference is it's 46/36/26 instead of 48/38/28 but there are few (if any) options I know of in a 48/38/28...
