Thanks everybody! It turns out the chain was just too gunked up!! I was looking at a used bike for sale, spun the crank backwards with my hand and noticed the derailleur pulled forward...I ended up...

chain off lower pulley

What could cause the chain to come off the lower pulley on the rear? The drive train only has 100 miles, so nothing seems worn out, and nothing is bent. Thanks for all who respond!
