Any thoughts on this bizarre comic covered frameset? I'm mostly interested to know if there is a precedent for this kind of thing, or any known history of the art form.

The frames are still available. Yes, 26" wheels of course. Rear spacing measures about 124mm. I think it would be difficult to accommodate a 135mm spaced wheel.
