Rain-x for sunglasses

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rain-x for sunglasses

Anybody ever use rain-x for your sunglasses to repel your sweat? I think they come in wipes now. It's worth a try, huh?

I'd be careful....I know that it can't be used on plexiglass or lexan(like on my motorcycle windshield)....so I'd hesitate to use it on high dollar sunglasses unless I knew it wouldn't damage them....a $10 Walmart pair??...sure why not??

Good point. I didn't think of that. I may have to do a little research on this one.

Oakley

Oakley HydroPhobic Solution
OakleyHydroPhobicSolution.jpg
Specially designed for use with Oakley Iridium lenses.
This water repelling solution is used to coat and clean the lens.
Great for water sports - water creates water droplets which then run off the lens easily.
Can be used on non Oakley lenses

I've tried it on mine, and it didn't help at all. I'm definately a 'salty' sweater though. I'm still searching for a solution to this common problem. Anyone else have any solutions to this problem.

I am also a salty sweater. What I found greatly helps is to wear a Headsweats Coolmax Skullcap. That has cut down on the amount of sweat pouring down onto my lenses so much. Well worth it to me. The little bit of sweat I now get on my lenses is not nearly as annoying as it used to be. Just got new Oakley's and will probably pick up their lense cleaner that's posted above.

I was just thinking about this yesterday. I have a backup set of lenses for my Rudys that I may try it on.

My problem is fog. When I ride and sweat early I have to pull my glasses down on my nose and look over them. After about 80 degrees, this goes away. How does one deal with that?

Rain-x works on glass surfaces where it modifies the silica surface to be hydrophobic, therefore the water beads and rolls away. The chemistry involved with Rain-X is not effective on plastic surfaces, it will probably weaken the plastic or make a hazy mess over the lens.

I tired it on my Smith glasses, it didn't made it hazy or anything. As for it a actually working, well kind of, I didn't have the chance to test it in the rain yet.
