Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Goodbye 1991 Sirrus, hello 2010 Project One!

I was just high bidder on a $4025.00 Project One Madone 6 Series gift certificate, paid $1565.00 for it. I am pumped! Had to share with people who might care!

This is either the bike deal of the century or bike scam of the century.

It's through a local bike shop, and a promotion with a local radio station. You had to have a gift certificate because the bike doesn't exist yet.

For the doubters, my first appointment with the bike shop is Wednesday afternoon for the initial evaluation. Has anybody done this with a Project One Bike? What all does it entail?

Sorry, I didn't realize this was truth or dare! Here you go, you'll notice my same username as the high bidder. Of course I could have made up an entire web page and stuff, but what can you do?

They should have an experienced fitter do a complete fitting on a Trek roadbike that they have in the store. The frame geometry is the same throughout the line, unless you get a 'pro' fit Madone which will have a 30mm shorter head tube.

Once they've measured you up to determine stem length, angle and handlebar width, you can go through and choose the components and colour scheme for your bike.

Then, wait a few weeks (a couple additional weeks for a 'custom' paint job) and get riding.

Go to https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/proje...odel/madone55/ to start dreaming. You can save your builds in there. Looks like for that price you'll be getting a 5 series with a Force groupset. Not a bad ride for the price for sure!

Post pics.

The problem is, I live in the freakin' boonies and don't have a high speed connection at home. My ideas will be posted for all to criticize if I have a few extra minutes at work tonight after I've been to the bike shop for my first consult.

After bike shop report:
Took my old bike in for a comparison, measured me up, checked things out, sat on a few bikes, made some adjustments, looked at the paint schemes in person, chose it all up in the computer, and viola! here's what I'm getting. Sorry to exlude BF from the color / component choice and all, but hey it is my bike..

Paint Scheme
Paint Scheme: Gloss Black/Gloss White

Drivetrain
Gruppo: Rival Double / Black
Cable Housing: Black

Components:
Wheelset: Race Lite Clincher
Tires: Race X Lite - Black
Stem: Race X Lite - White
Handlebar: Race Blade
Bar Tape: Gel Cork / White
Seat Mast Cap: Madone White/ Carbon
Saddle: 2009 Race Lite / Yellow Silver / White
Headset: Cane Creek IS8 carbon-white

Estimated Price:
$3979.49

This was a fun, once in a lifetime experience for me, Charlie at The Bike Line in Broad Ripple was great. Now I wait.

Great build, I like the color scheme. Some like to go a little overboard IMO on their project one designs. This one is simple and classy. Post pics when it arrives.

Wow, good deal. I just ordered one pretty similar to yours except with the new Ultegra instead of rival. Thread here.

I'm a little slow but you bid on a gift certificate worth over $4,000 and you paid just above $1,500? You send in your project one dream bike design and gift certificate and they send you a bike? Wow that is the deal of the year.

I loved my 1991 Sirrus. Sorry I sold that thing to buy my Giant TCR.
Do yourself a favor and keep that Sirrus for when you want to go old-school.

Also, I have to ask, and I don't mean this in an offensive way.
Why Rival? I mean, on a fantastic bike like that, especially having gotten the insane deal that you did, don't you think that bike deserves Force, or Ultegra?
I don't mean this at all to criticize your choice. It's your bike and your call obviously. Im just curious as to the reasoning behind it.
