2011 1000-Mile Month Challenge

Note: I know this won't fit into everyone's training plans, or life plans, and I know this will not interest everyone, so there is absolutely no pressure to participate in this challenge. If you don't want to participate in this one, that's OK. But it is do-able (I've done it many times) and may encourage some of us to get out there and ride more.

The challenge: Ride 1000 miles in at least one month this year ... or as many months as you want ... go for all 12 months if you have the time and energy!!

I know lots of you ride this amount and more during your "season", so let us know how it's going.

If you don't quite make 1000 miles in a month, check out the 1000-Kilometer Month Challenge:
https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...onth-Challenge

I'm on board with this. I just ticked off this year at 8952. Next year I was hoping of breaking 10k, but 1000 miles a month sounds better I don't think I'll be doing that much in winter, though, so I'll have to stock up in warmer seasons and average it out.

I was in a mileage challenge with a local bike club (Severna Park Peloton).

...........M1. M2... M3... M4.. M5... M6.. M7... M8... M9. M10. M11 M12..... TL
Isaias 1152 854 1245 1252 1298 1336 1495 1227 1416 1376 1372 1221 15244

It was documented here, except they didn't put December's miles in yet (1221 miles):

https://sites.google.com/site/severna...eloton-mileage (Look for the name - Isaias)

M2 - February - we had a blizzard; most snow in 10 years. I was lucky to get over 800 miles that month.

I'm in. I was thinking that I would wait until March to start this one... Took me about 5 minutes to realise IT IS MARCH.

I better get the mileage up!

As Machka would know, it's been a little bit wet in North Queensland for the past couple of weeks. My commuter isn't set up for wet weather right now (I know, not much of a commuter if it can't handle a little bit of rain...) so I've been taking the car to work.

Direct route to work is about 3 kilometres.

When I take the pushbike I just make that route as long as I can. Usually I take the long way around through the city, down the beach. But it's just not fun in the soaking wet with all the car spray.

Maybe I should have joined the 1000 kilometre challenge instead!

That's ok. Cool, dry winter is coming. I'm going to get you 1000 kilometres. I promise.

I've played with Excel for nearly 20 years now. And I got to thinking how difficult a bad winter will make getting 10,000 miles in the Midwest - let alone 1,000 every month.
However, note the green line - I'm off to a way better start than 2010.....

A little bit wet?? You'd probably be better off going for a 1000 mile month in a canoe than on a bicycle!!

Valid point!

The skies opened up and poured down again today. Saw a little bit of blue at 2pm for about 10 minutes and then the rains continued.

I love the rain, but I've had enough this year.

Ha, I've been trying to figure out how to compare "2010" vs. "2011". Looking at your chart, I think I may have figured it out. Although, I've tried by "month", but can't seem to get it to work.

Yeah, I had 1,086 -but the only reasons I has these miles was the fact that I ruined my back and could not train for a marathon.

However, I also learned a lot more about cold weather riding gear as well. That helped a lot.

I'm a full month ahead of last year's mileage - currently at a 7,000 per year pace.

I hit a 1,000 miles last night on my ride, and still have two Saturdays left in April. Got a 200k tomorrow.

Alright, I'm trying this for June! Already have 76 miles over 2 days, and as I'm commuting 20 miles each day, I think I can reach the 1000. It will be my first one ever though, so I'm pretty excited to get out there and try. In fact, why am I even at this computer?!?
