Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

First Bike: CAAD10 4 Rival

I want to thank you for helping me select this bike. I also think that it was worth it for me to pay $300 more to get the Rival with the color I wanted. A lot of people comment on the bike. I have also met some great riders and will be doing some team rides soon.

Today was my second ride (I had injured my hand on my first day and wasn't exactly supposed to ride today) and I covered almost 40 miles. It was great, even though my legs were almost giving out at couple of places. I just love this bike and how responsive it is.

Some quick pics:

The last pic is the "protection," hahahaha.

I forgot: I had the bike weighed before adding anything. The stock weight was 17.05 lbs. I have the pic in my cell, but too much hassle to take it out right now.

Beautiful. Good choice. I am getting the exact bike in about two weeks.

Is it a 52cm?

Yes. I was going to get a 54, but this one place told me that since I want more of the racer style, a 52 would make the position more "rigorous" and sporty. I went with it.

Congrats on the bike, also thanks for weighting it it's lighter than I thought! Not bad AT ALL for an Alu frame.

Nice new bike! Wish I could have afforded a Caad10 as my first bike! Enjoy it, and ride lots!

Yeah because there is no Rival BB30 crank.

I'm about 5.8. The interesting thing is that when I first put in my size at the Competitive Cyclist site, right away it gave me the correct answer of 52-53cm for "Competitive fit" and higher, up to 56cm for the "French fit." That's another reason why I thought this shop was great. Very few shops really tried to find out exactly what size will fit me. I'd say always verify what a shop says by getting a few opinions. I am thinking that one of the reasons why I love this bike so much and why it has given me no aches whatsoever is that it fits me so well. And I haven't even had the time to go back to do a complete adjustment of the bike to my body while wearing my gear.

I think that's one of the important reasons why CAAD10 Rival weighs more than a pound lighter than the 105.

It's funny how we can be a 52 to 56. Such a gap.

But yea, keep me posted on the ride feedback. And congrats.

You need to feed your dog. That is unless you plan on riding him up Mont Ventoux.

Nice bike, but the frame pump is killing it for me.

Hey congrats! I know you were agonizing over that purchase for awhile and you made the right one!

After 1000 miles you'll want to dump those RS10s. Grab a pair of $500 wheels somewhere and you'll really notice a difference.

I agree about the frame pump. I had a Lezyne share a water bottle mount on mine for the first couple months. I had a seat bag on there too. Now I'm more minimalist - I use only CO2 and everything goes in my jersey pockets. I even ended up removing my second water bottle mount in the winter because I was only using one bottle anyway.

Good luck and be safe!

Bikes: CAAD10 Rival

Thanks everyone. I hope this bike will put me in great shape, better than my running. I hadn't really bought anything for a while, so I thought it was worth it to spend some money now to get the bike I want. Plus I consider it somewhat of an investment since the bike should retain a lot of value, at least for some time to come.

I do have a seat bag, but did not put in on for the picture. I got this one: https://www.amazon.com/Topeak-Aero-We...7641044&sr=8-1

Now could somebody please explain what's wrong with my pump? Before buying it, I even searched BF and Topeak Morph was at the top of the recommendations (archives). I am assuming you guys use this: https://www.amazon.com/Lezyne-Road-Dr...7640982&sr=8-1

The pump is fine, it just kind of ruins the look of a beautiful bike is all.

Same with the seat bag - totally makes sense and is totally functional. Some think it ruins the lines of the bike - purely aesthetics. I agree.

You did good boy. I wish I would fit on a CAAD. My long legs/short torso with Cdale's short headtube is a deal breaker for me. I would like a CAAD10 with the Synapse geometry.
