Exhilerating Short Mtn Bike Ride Today

OOPS!! exhilarating

I drove a few miles with my mtn bike in the backseat of my Neon (yes, it fits nicely) to Dawson Buttes Ranch Open Space, where I did a wonderful 5 mile single track ride. Likely about 300 feet elevation change - just a guess, though.

I think these rides are great for my reflexes, balance, etc., as they require constant turning, braking, fast uphills, etc. IOW, I've got to be all there, or I will fall.

I met 3 women mtn bike riders, 1 male, 4 horses - all with ladies riding them.

MAP

Here are some pictures:

Blimey mate-You are getting adventourous in your Old Age

Not meant as it sounds but I can remember you posting pics of an offroad ride that looked like a motorway for bikes. That singletrack looks a bit lumpy and it will tax your resources.

Watch out for those Horses- They are bigger than you and you have no idea what they are about to do- Probably the same with the riders too.

How pretty - my type of scenary! I love the 4th photo! Inspired me to get out (in this gosh awful heat we are having) and do at least a short trail ride. I'll let you know if I survive!

These photos are gorgeous, Denver. Thanks for sharing! Tonight on my ride, a deer peeled off the path right in front of me. Makes the ride exciting!

Bikes: confidential infromation that I don't even share with my wife

I just started riding on mtb trails last fall. The pucker factor at first is constant but it does decline as your skills develop. The descents are still challenging as I'm learning to let the bike do the work and to look ahead. Logs, rock piles, roots and switchbacks that stopped my bike before are now an afterthought as I now ride right through them. My 29'er is a tank that seems to be able to ride over almost anything. My falls and crashes have been minimal other than the hard punch to the ribs from a metal bridge railing a few weeks ago then falling on the same ribs the next day when I crashed on top of a log pile obstacle.

I did get to ride mtb's with my brother in the Denver about 10 years ago. We rode the trails at White Ranch, Watertown Canyon and a few other locations including one near the dinosaur track's rock. It seemed that we spent most of the rides climbing up the mountainsides on sketchy narrow trails with big rocks thrown in to stop any progress, then bombing back down the trail to the start. Having never been on a mtb until that week along with the high elevation taking my breath away I was not an immediate fan of mountain biking.

That looks like a lot of fun. Looked like it would be more fun on a MTB going the other way. I prefer down hill more than up on a MTB

Sure didn't smell well ventilated! I think it was infested with pack rats. Still fun to see how the homesteaders lived though.
