Denali Park Teklanika to Polychrome Pass and back

I did this ride last Fall and this Spring, but this year my wife joined me with some trepidation. She, however, did great. We had to buy a three day camping pass in order to drive back to Teklanika campground in Denali Park but we weren't there for camping. We came around the corner at the top of Sable Pass and almost ran into a grizzly sow and her year old cub. They were about 30 feet from us. A bus came in about two minutes and scared them off. We watched them both go for a swim in a nearby lake a few minutes later. It's not a long ride, out and back, but the hills were a definite workout with extended 7-8% grades and quite a few pieces at 11 to 16%... the colors were incredible this time of year. Roughly 35 miles.

After reading your report and however much you convince me that you have some fantastic places to ride- I am staying in Europe. Worst we will come across are the Crowds of yobs at chucking out time on a Saturday night when the pubs close.

Come to think of it- Perhaps a Grizzly might be the better option.

I'm afraid that's a little close for Grizzly viewing for my taste.
