Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My bike needs a name!

So I just received my new Felt F75X for cruising around town, and like the other bikes ridden in my gang it'll have a name. I need some input as to what it should be! Here's a picture for inspiration.

BTW, be careful, some here will mock you for giving a name to an "inanimate" object.

Congrats on your new ride, regardless of name, it looks like a sweet ride.

How's that work? Wasn't Lola a gender confused prostitute or something? Or maybe that does work...

Lola was a TV, in a song by the Kinks.

A TV?

Well, we drank champagne and danced all night,
under electric candlelight,
she picked me up and sat me on her knee,
She said, "Little boy won't you come home with me?"
Well, I'm not the world's most passionate guy,
but when I looked in her eyes,
I almost fell for my Lola,

Well I left home just a week ago,
and I never ever kissed a woman before,
Lola smiled and took me by the hand,
she said, "Little boy, gonna make you a man."
Well I'm not the world's most masculine man,
but I know what I am and that I'm a man,
so is Lola.
I don't get that from those lyrics, but then I often don't get what they are talking about.

EDIT: wait, my bad. thought you meant television but didn't think that through. So yeah, gender confused is one interpretation.

I'm thinking along the lines of the other bikes with these names: My all-black single speed is a Sputnik (also the model), a friends mix-and-match parts single speed is a Frankenstein, and another friends sky blue mountain bike is smurf. Dam that that last one is taken.

Traditionally, a vessel would have a woman's name so you could go with Smurfette.

But I still like Charlene. Or Lola if you swing that way.

You got it, TV = transvestite.

Lola is a fun song, and I love the Kinks; they are my favorite British band.

Yeah, the kinks are good but so are led zeppelin, king crimson, pink floyd, stones, yardbirds, beatles, david bowie, etc. etc. etc. British Rock was/is the best (except for the doors, grateful dead, jimi hendrix, etc. etc. etc.)

(so is this what they mean by threadjacking?)

How about naming it "Felt F75X" otherwise one day you'll say to some guy whose wife is named "Lola" or "Charlene" how awesome it is to ride "Lola" or "Charlene" and you'll get punched in the face. Trust me on this.

Who would marry someone named Zub-Zero or Smurfette? F75X is an interesting model name, but a boring pronoun.

+1 totally agree, but I'm a big fan of spontaneous names as well. A friend called my rain bike a calamity because of all it's random parts, hence Calamity. My Tarmac is Bubbles (the mistress) as named by my mother when I insisted in taking it into my wife's and my bedroom. The Bianchi is Purdy named by one of the mechanics at my shop.
