OFG is a bad influence (Mondonico Content)

I need to put OFG on my spam list. If I don't do it, my wife might. He sent me an email saying essentially "you should check out this bike"

I didn't need another bike, but I decided to check it out. It turned out to be too nice. And right on size size. So now I am at N+2.

It is a Mondonico Futura Leggero. The seller says it was purchased in 1996 from BiKyle in PA. It is all 8 speed athena. Columbus Brain tubing. Which I understand was not all that high end in 1996, but still pretty good.

I am going to put wider handlebars and give it a whirl before I decide what to do with it. I have a 10speed daytona group that needs a home. But OFG says 8 speed athena is good stuff, and I should try it out as is for a while.

One question about the tubing. Apparently Columbus Brain came in both OS and standard version. The sticker just says Brain. The top and seat tube moth measure out at around 29mm. But the down tube is around 32mm.

Is that OS or not?

I thought standard was 25.4mm top and 28.6mm for both the seat and down tube.

But I also thought an OS tube set would have a 32mm seat tube. So the 29/29/32 throws me a bit. Thoughts? What is down the tube on ELOS?

Jared

PS: How can we get OFG unbanned?

OFG is why I have my De Rosa Primato...great guy, but bad for the bank account!!!

I'm not even sure he wants to be unbanned. I know he doesn't always play well with others, but it's our loss...the guy was extremely knowledgeable and he knew what worked and what didn't.

I give this thread 10 minutes

Nice bike.

I don't much about OS tubing, but I have a Waterford Paramount that uses Tru Temper OS and still takes a 28.6mm clamp on FD. The seat tube flares out at the BB shell.

Bikes: 1986 Alan Record Carbonio, 1985 Vitus Plus Carbone 7, 1984 Peugeot PSV, 1972 Line Seeker, 1986(est.) Medici Aerodynamic (Project), 1985(est.) Peugeot PY10FC

That's a beauty!
Paint graphics are all nice and understated, giving the bike a sophisticated look.
Good that it also has a proper fork crown on it!
I hope you're planning to adjust that saddle soon though....

Sorry, but we can't allow threads that discuss banned members since they are not allowed to respond.

Feel free to start a new thread that's just about the bike.
