Does anyone use a rear blinker during the day?
I've seen a couple people on the road do this. I'm partially considering doing this on maybe longer solo rides just for added visibility. Does anyone else do this? or does anyone think this is stupid?

If you use one, be sure to get one that's actually bright enough to be seen -- only a few are

Dinotte 300R. You can be seen a long way office. Disclaimer: serious roadies eschew taillights, under-saddle bags and helmet mirrors.

I do. Using a Radbot 1000 and some rechargeable batteries. The run time on flash mode is long enough that rotating out batteries is a non-issue.
I figure anything I can do to help myself not get hit is a plus.

I have a Cat Eye TL-LD1100, which is really bright. I run it on my commuter bike regardless of the light level. I have to ride in the right lane of a 4 lane road for a few miles where there is a curb right along the right side of the lane, and I have to take the lane. Cars come up from behind pretty fast, and there's a lot of light and shadow due to trees, so I want to make sure they see me a long way off.

I use the Blackburn Flea F & R lights on my bike when I go out for early morning or evening rides. Also during the day if it's overcast.
I always set them on strobe... I'd rather be seen than dead. The front is super-bright, even in broad daylight. I've actually had it change a couple of stop lights as I approached, lol.

I do a Planet Bike SuperFlash Turbo. It is plenty bright and has a random blinking pattern. I dig it, and I use it during the day... so yes.

I became convinced on a recent club ride. I had stopped to take some photos and the guy I was riding with got at least 1/4 mile ahead of me. His tail light was quite visible from a distance in the middle of the day. I think he was using the Planet Bike unit. I've got a Blackburn Flea on my main road bike. I've begun using it more frequently, especially when riding by myself. Might be my imagination, but I think the drivers give me more clearance when I am lit up.

I use mine quite a bit, and it's mounted on my bike just below my seat bag. Call me a fred all you want; I got hit by a semi on a bicycle in October and I lived to tell about it, so whoever thinks I ought not have a blinking light can kiss my ass.

Cygolite Hotshot. $35ish at Amazon.com. USB rechargable. The brightest flashing mode is brighter on-center than ____________ (DiNotte 300R, SuperFlash, SuperFlash Turbo, Radbot 1000, Danger Zone, etc). The key is to aim it dead-on, since its beam pattern is directional enough that it really matters. Properly aimed, this will be noticeable from long range in direct sunlight, great for getting across exit ramps safely in 60mph zones and such.

Yup. I have a Planet Bike light mounted to my rear rack, and I turn it onto flash every time I ride. If visibility is at all compromised (like today when it was foggy during my ride) I set my front white light to strobe as well.

I see PLENTY of serious road riders (who pass me and leave me in their dust) with taillights during the day. Many also have small under-saddle bags.

Yes for training, no for races (obviously).
Mine is a Planet Bike something. Very bright and visible during the day. I want all the visibility I can get.

Tongue-in-cheek of course, but use of a taillight isn't nearly as universal as one would expect. I've had several drivers stop and tell me that they appreciated being able to see me 1/2 mile away. The risks on our tandem are "higher" of course, but I always use the 300R on my single. I like the fact that it's self-contained and I can move it from one bike to another in 10 secs.

I always ride with one. I'll turn it off when I'm in a group because I don't want to blind the guy behind me but even then I'll keep it on if visibility isn't great or if the road is at all sketchy.
Passing cars give me a lot more room when I have the light on. I can tell when I've forgotten to turn it back on after a rest stop because I notice cars passing more closely; flip the blinker on and they move out again.
Disclaimer: anyone who thinks of themselves as a "serious roadie" and gives a rat's ass whether you use a light is actually a "serious poseur". I rode 1600 miles in the first three months of this year before shattering my collarbone in a 25mph pace line crash; that might qualify me as "serious roadie" and I always use a helmet mirror and light. I do skip the seat bag in favor of a tool roll held on with a toe strap though, I'm no Fred.

I have a rear light, just started using one this year. When riding I like to have the extra "hey, I'm out here" when on the fogline of the open roads here in northern Michigan. The light is at its brightest when on the flashing on/off mode.
These things weigh next to nothing and clip right to the seat bag or post.
