Title says it all. I've seen a few threads on 'storage solutions', and though that rather than resurrecting one of those I'd simply share here. Not strictly 'C&V', but possibly of interest - and there are pictures of old bicycles, so...

Found these at a place called l'A.R.B.R.E. (an acronym for I don't know what, that adds up to the word 'tree' in French) in Montreal's Mile End neighbourhood. From what I gather, the fellow's main business is hardwood kitchens and assorted furnishings - actually, he was out installing kitchens both times I stopped by a few weeks ago, and I ended up having to call and arrange a time when he'd be in the shop. The design had actually caught my eye some time back, when he had a single one mounted on the wall in the shop for his own bike. Recently, I'd noticed a stack in different woods in the window, and resolved to stop in and inquire. The most economical (which I picked up) were made of laminated wood...

Great, simple design. Quite easily reproducible if you've got the tools and knowhow. Given my own living situation and timeline I opted for one out of the shop window. Planning to be in the current apartment for about 6 months, and our walls are early 20th century plaster with studs far apart, so the mounting is a bit ad hoc, but these will be coming with when I move back to Vancouver, and mounted a little more elegantly:



Very straightforward, but doesn't look out of place in the living room (well, maybe with a bit more care and attention to mounting):


And a handy little shelf for your bike stuff (or my girlfriend's, in this case):

Racks like these really work out nicely for C&V bikes, but a lot of similar wall racks don't seem to address the back sloping top tubes on compact frames of late....same with car trunk racks which sits the bike at weird angles when hung up on them.......too bad for compact frame owners, I guess....

Although I use several different storage systems, including ceiling pulleys (which work, but are a pain), ceiling hooks (darned near perfect: cheap and functional), wall racks, and floor racks - not to mention a couple of display stands - I have a couple of Saris Bike Bunks for the bikes my wife allows me to display indoors (guest room only.) I'm very happy with the look and functionality.
