Ritchey Touring/ Sport Touring Road Bike
Many here have seen this bike before. For those who have not, I got it from the original owner via ebay, it has been ridden across the country twice (not by me!) ridden regularly as a daily commuter for 20+ years, showed up at my door with a crack in the seat tube (where the post is inserted) and was repaired and repainted (just the seat lug cluster/area by Bilenky Cycle Works in Philadelphia. They did an awesome job.
This bike is about as large as I can ride, safely and almost ended up going to Leica Lad in trade/ sale that got stopped, due to a job change on my end. Since then I have spent some time trying to get it comfortable and set up for regular riding.
I just changed the stem from a 120mm to 100mm and the handing improved quite a bit. I used the original Suntour Micro-Ratchet Shifters and modified a set of Shimano bar ends to accept them and they work great. Good folks here on the forum helped me sort out a shifting issue with the Suntour Ultra Freewheel and a chain swap to 9-speed from 7 speed did the trick. It now shifts flawlessly and accurately.
I wanted to install fenders and tried a set of smooth, VO 45mm and they were too wide at the fork crown and at the chain stay bridge. I then tried a set of 35mm VO Smooth fenders and they were to narrow for the 30mm tires. They are about 30mm wide on the inside.
Next up, a set of 45mm SKS fenders I have had for about 6 years. With some cutting/shaping and sanding I got them to fit ok. The fender line was not great but they were on. While trying to adjust the rear fender, it cracked. Remove and try something else.
Enter a set of cream colored SKS Longborads. I got these on ebay kinda cheap so I figured I would give them a try. Turns out the profile is different than the regular SKS fenders (more square-ish). With some judicious carving at the chainstays and the front fork crown. I got them on. EVerything works and I get to keep my fancy-schmancy 30mm tires on this bike. Yay! Here are some pic to prove it actually happened.

Amazing bike and build! Are those the faux lugs like he used on the Annapurna? - truly beautiful and a frame I'd snatch up too even if it wasn't exactly the right size.

nice bike. All it needs is leather bar tape.

Incredible fender1, it looks like a bike you could ride all day comfortably. Do you have any long rides planned?

I have to plan some. My job change has cut into my riding time. Must fix that! I should ride out your way and you can take for test spin? It is really very comfortable now that I got the correct size stem.

yeah I wouldn't rule out those being faux lugs, I kinda thing they are, they are just too smooth. Either faux of filled and I am going to say faux since that was his bag.

I think this bike might pre-date that construction style. From what could find on line, in 79/80(?) Ritchey started using ovalized seat tubes ( I have one on the Ritchey Tandem I have) but this bike does not have one. Also he was filling in between the chainstays w/ fillet braze to increase stiffness and this bike does not have that feature either.

No lugs here, faux or other:
The joys of ordering a custom frame.

Well, as noted in the opening post, this bike ALMOST came to me.
Sigh. We have both been in changing job situations that can make high-end bike purchases suspect when put up against family needs. Double sigh.
A Ritchey road bike, preferably with touring angles, in a 60cm-ish size? My final grail bike. Period.
Funny, this particular bike is a bit big for either one of us, but . . . in the face of such beauty? Triple sigh.
Nevertheless, pain notwithstanding, I just LOVE seeing this bike. The fenders are really a nice touch. I like 'em.
Should the day ever come. . . I still claim first dibs.
I'll hope ALL of our job/employment options remain bright!
Cheers! And Thanks, yet again, for the wist-worthy photos.

Hey Aemmer,
Two quick questions: I don't understand the comment about "getting what you paid for..." Just curious.
AND, what size is that frame of yours? Details? This thread is honoring Ritchey road bikes. Tell us more (please)!
Cheers.

Nice bike fender1. I like this.
I'm not sure how your front rings are set up, but if you lower your fd to 3mm above the teeth, you'll probably get slightly crisper shifting on the front. it looks a little high to me.
Also, beware of -holiday76. He will go "Hulk" and rip off your fenders mid-ride
