Looking for a unicorn
I'm not sure where to post this. But here goes. Yesterday we decided to go for a ride, so I mount our 92 Cannondale tandem on the rack and drive away. guess who didn't fasten the straps. So off it fly's ay around 53 miles an hour. scrapes and bruises mostly bent front wheel fixable. But the steering tube is now bent. 1" tube is hard to find for a tandem. So, I'm looking for any suggestions.

Ouch, hate that when that happens. If the fork is repairable, suggest you contact a frame builder experienced building tandems such a Bilinky or Rodrigues. If they determine it’s not repairable, they could build you a tandem rated replacement.

Sorry to here that. You might want to look at Is anyone looking for one of these? Tandems found for sale. You can likely get a quality tandem for less than the repair.

Is it a fork you’re looking for? CoMotion also builds forks, I had one built by them once (with 1 1/8” steerer) for a few hundred bucks. Worth it if your tandem fits you and doesn’t have a bunch of other damage.

Thanks for the replies. Not too much other damage, a little in the non-drive side Chain stay. I can repair that. It tweaked the front wheel a bit. I believe that can be worked out. The frame fits to well to just get rid of it. I've e-mailed Rodrigues, I'll try Co-motion.and Bilinky.

Ouch. Love those early Cannondales. Gotta say though. Given the forces involved in a mishap like that, there would either be no visible damage, or damage enough to write off the frame. I'm not sure how the steertube is bent and not the headtube with it and if the headtube is bent ... yeah. So that rig really has to go in to a framebuilder who can check all the relevant alignments and welds and pronounce judgement on your pride and joy. But another poster has it right, you could very possibly find another 92 Cannondale for what the framebuilder might want to repair the one you have. Best.

I'm now the proud owner of a 1998 cannondale rt1000 tandem. Thanks for all the replies.

Yeah, we took it out for the first ride yesterday. Mostly trying to set it up for my wife. Lots of stops to adjust everything. It does look nice with the sun shining on it.
