Well, except BMX bikes. I went by the first booth I came across with bmx frames. They were so completely ignorant to me that I totally avoided anything or anyone that had to do with those frames. I thought about going up to a different booth on the last day, but my stomach wouldn't let me.

Of course, since my big thing is road biking, a lot of pictures are of road bikes. But I do have singlespeeds, tandems, cyclocross, tri-bikes, recumbents, mountain bikes, folding bikes, electric bikes, and custom bikes that are of unusual design.

My aplogies to the quality of the pictures. I do find that when I compress a very large photo down to a very small size (18 MB to 100 kb), I often lose quality. So if anyone does want to see the pictures up close, I'm not adverse to sending any of them out, provided I'm not getting so many requests I can't handle them!

So many people there it wasn't funny, but so many booths you couldn't possibly get to everything! I didn't even get to see Tac X, Shimano, Specialized, Kona, Timex, and Polar, just to name a few. But then again, there's always next year!

Unfortunately, I don't know the size of that frame. But it wasn't like they were putting out bikes for folks that ride a 49 cm or something either...

I actually really enjoyed the Fondriest booth- their bikes are fantastic! I also enjoyed the Vicious Cycles booth- they had that nice SS frame (the one that looked like bamboo) and they had a cool winter bike. When I pressed the folks at Vicious Bikes about the winter bike (not featured in these photos), they eventually did say it would be for riding in snow or on ice... not like what I do when I ride in the winter time, but for actually riding ON snowdrifts and snow and such. And the tires were like monster wheels!

She sure does! I actually bought those rollers from them, so the rollers you see in that picture are mine, mine, MINE! Anyway, I asked her if I would be able to learn how to ride while sitting upright on my bike, because I couldn't figure out how to do it. She was like "yup", so I asked her to demonstrate, and she promptly sat up and started smiling, so I snapped that picture of her (she said it was ok). Her husband was cool too- I asked if he could do jumps while on the rollers, and he was like "I think so", then stood up and started jumping out of the saddle. They were both very skilled riders for sure.

Koffee... pretty standard stuff for track riders... are you having a hard time with sitting up on your bike while riding it always or only while riding rollers?

Eons ago, back when I didn't even own a car (those were the days) I would do my commute and then watch MASH for another hour while riding rollers...

The key to rollers is smooth riding... your cadence has to be smooth... Start by riding in a door frame so you can fall either way and balance yourself. Use a stand for your front wheels until you get the cadence smooth, then take off the stand... work on smooth pedaling, then balance.

If you can ride handsfree on the road, it is a short transition to handsfree on rollers... once you get your cadence smooth.

I used to joke with a friend that I wanted to make a video of me making a PB&J will riding handsfree down a major street.

That's the plan- when they had me try out the rollers at the convention, they gave me the exact same instructions. I expected to fall, but once they got me started and talked me through the stiff form and got me to relax, all of a sudden, they told me they weren't holding on to the bike anymore, and I looked down at their hands and was like "wow!". When I got off the rollers, I bought them.

I have a hard time sitting up on my bike when riding the streets. I just never trusted I had the good form to try it, and the one time I did, I hit a car. Total embarrassment. Luckily, the car was parked. I'm sure by the end of this winter, I'll be able to sit up and do just about anything on that bike. I've got rollers to work with now, so I think this winter, it'll be an interesting training season for me.

Yeah, Vicious Cycles definitely emphasized their custom paint jobs. You could get just about anything you wanted painted onto the bike if you bought the bike from them. They are a pretty sexy company- it would be nice to design my own frame and have some professionals put it on a custom made bike... very tempting...

Thanks for the pics Koffee. I must say I think I like the looks of the '03-'04 King better than the '05 King XLight. The new bike is more masculine and being 100 grams lighter of course is a plus, but I liked the grace and elegance the red pinstriping added to previous model, it's more 'De Rosa like'. That Fondriest is HOT!!!

It took everything in me to not snatch that Fondriest and run out the door... I mean, the blue frame. I love the paint job- it's so unusual. I wouldn't mind getting a tattoo of that paint job on my butt or something (a small tattoo, though).

Hey Koffee. i know what you mean. the other day my friend came by the house(fondriest rep) and showed me the new frames. he had a domino in blue. I'm in love now. the pictures do that frame no justice. you have to see it up close. it is pure art i tell ya. that paint makes me crazy. I have no doubt I'm gonna snatch one very soon. The stupid me forgot to take pictures!!dohh. I also saw the carb level plus and carbon lex. the carbon work is just incredible on the carbon lex. they might not be the super duper light frames like scott or giant ,but for that 300 or so grams more that fondriest weigh, i prefer having something unique.

That company was absolutely in love with their custom bikes. Can you believe those IE Bikes were only $400! It was incredible! It took everything in me not to purchase the bike right then and there. But I did take their card and made a mental note to contact them in the future. I could definitely see myself and my nephews on chopper bikes riding up and down the streets of Virginia!

The people at that booth were very cool. If your friend builds these bikes, he should definitely contact them. Try them at their email at dc@iecycles.com.
