Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Do you think FedEx lost my bike?

I bought a new 2007 LiteSpeed Vortex on closeout from a dealer in Chattanooga TN. I’ve been monitoring the Fed-Ex tracking for the item and it hasn’t changed since Dec 13th. The only entries are

Dec 13, 2007
6:34 PM Arrived at FedEx location Chattanooga TN
3:29 PM Picked up Chattanooga TN

Dec 12, 2007
4:08 PM Package data transmitted to FedEx Chattanooga TN

According to the dealer, they didn’t change the weigh bill and the bike was sent FedEx Ground International. Thankfully, it was insured. In my past experience, there should have been scans/record of its travels especially when it is off loaded at Canada Customs. Delivery is supposed to be tommorow.

So, cast your vote; Do you think FedEx lost my bike?

We'll find out tommorow.

Yes I do! FedEx stinks! It could also be that the item was held up in customs. This is what happened to me one time I ordered something from italy, for some reason it was held up at customs. Your best bet would be to call fedex and speak to someone and see if they can get any more info!

Bikes: Real Steel. Really. Ti is cool, too !

This time of year I find that it may be several days before the updates hit their systems. I've had them arrive before ever being updated past the first date they went into system. It's not lost - it's just their system.

I also had a FedEx package I sent one to CA - a small one like 3 lbs - take almost 3 weeks !!!! It seems it genrally takes less time going from CA to USA than from USA to CA.

My best luck to CA has been USPS Priority International.

I called FedEx today. They said that they can't/won't do anything unless the package is not delivered and only after the expected delivery date, which is tomorrow. December 20th.

So, is it lost or is it the system?

I could... but thought it would be fun to guess. I personally believe that some dude in Chattanooga is riding a new Vortex at this very moment.

No, I don't think Fedex lost your bike. Wow if any body thinks Fedex sucks they have not had to file a claim for a lost package with USPS. Now they suck! do you have monthes to get your insurance money back, they are truly a joke!

Bikes: Whats it to ya?

I`ve tracked packages via Fedex Track and have often witnessed zero tracking until the package was delivered and then all the info appeared at once , when the package was delivered. Crappy tracking system. I think you will get your bike. I have also noticed the Canadian customs holds up a lot of pacages when I ship items to Canada. Hang in there.

Sometimes those pesky border customs take it in and the tracking doesn't update itself until it actually goes on the delivery truck.

Pretty regular with USPS/CP items.
UPS is pretty good with cross border tracking.
Fedex... I usually get the delivery failure sticker on my door when I come home because the tracking didn't update itself until the truck actually got to my door.

It will arrive. I am sending out good arrival vibes right now. Although having said that it might not arrive until after Christmas.

But anyway, it's winter in Canada. You going to be riding a new bike right now?

I sent something to Canada once and it vanished for a month. Then all of a sudden it showed up and had been siezed by customs. Good thing I used Eddie Van Halen's return address.

Well, I've been commuting to work in sub freezing temps all winter so the cold doesn't bother me. The highway shoulders are dry. I would ride it. The anticipation would kill me if I had to wait until spring. However, I'm still waiting for a set of Spinergy Stealth PBO FCC's to arrive and I need to install my Campy Record group.

Yes, but commuting in sub-zero temperatures, and riding a brand new titanium bike in sub-zero temperatures are two different things. What if some idiot peed on the road and left a teeny patch of ice just where you want to brake?

Find out tomorrow! Shipping this time of year, this year has been a double whammy! Weather and the holiday shopping/shipping season.

Did the shipper declare value?! There is an additional fee for that.

Who is FEDEX billing for the shipping?

Will someone be at the recipient address all during the committment day? Are they alert? The driver isn't going to knock more than once and head back to the truck

I doubt it, This the three major ground carriers worst week of the year. In years past there computer tracking systems basically locks for hours if not days at a time. It will show.

This has happened to me too with Fedex. The tracking site showed no updates - on calling customer service they said they'll have someone call me back (but never did).

One day (estimated arrival date + 1 day) the package just showed up!

Its gone. Forget it. We ship with FedEx and they lose tons of our packages every year. Once there is no update on the tracking page it usually means GONE. Good luck.

My bike got held up in customs coming from Belgium. That might be it.

There's also the phone option.

I'm guessing that you get the bike tomorrow. FedEx has a pretty good track record, especially when you consider the zillions of packages they process every day. If you went through the post office, however, I'd bet that some lucky mailman's kid would be riding a new ti bike to school come the new year.
