Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Giant TCR Advanced. Whcih color?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2007 Giant TCR Advanced Team. Only 2 color options. Either the black and pink Tmobile bike, or a blue white and black color scheme. I don't really like the poser aspect of the Tmobile bike, but I think it might look a little better with a set of zipp wheels than the blue and whit bike.
What do you think? By the way, the pics aren't exactly as spec'd in the US, because the US spec'd bike for 2007 isn't on Giant's web page yet.

I'm certainly no style maven, but that blue/white/black one seems ugly to me....just my $0.02

you sure it's going to be the magenta rings graphic package, and not something like this:

if it's between the two that you posted, then i'd be tempted by the 'rings', if it's closer to the one i just posted, but with an ISP, then i'd go blue.

btw - whoever designs the Giant graphics truly needs to be fired.

Between those two options, definitely the Tmobile color scheme, I think the blue/white is kinda ugly.

I would not want my bike to say T-Mobile (or any other team unless I rode for them) so I would go with the blue.

Bikes: Cannondale EVO, CAAD9, Giant cross bike.

There are two Advanced frames. Both have color rings, but only the team frame has the Tmobile logo. But you have two choices. The other says "Advanced" on the top tube.

Nice frame.

Go with the black. It's a scientifically proven fact that black bikes go up to 10% faster than any other color.

that's alway been my thought, but I tend to think the blue one's ugly, hence the dillema.

either way you lose.

I wonder if Giant realizes how many bikes they haven't sold because of the barbie-pink color scheme.
Get the T-mobile and remove the stickers.

Hey Merlin, I generally value your opinions and input having read many of your posts over the last year, and I acknowledge that your experience with owning and riding many different bikes and partaking in different sports such as road racing and triathlons gives you considerably more perspective on bikes in general than the rest of us hacks, can you please elaborate on your decision to purchase this particular bike? We know there are many many different bikes out there, and I've checked this one out myself as well. So, why this one as opposed to the rabid, mouth froth generating, dare I say it lest an army of Cervelo zombies come spewing forth...here it is.... Soloist Carbon! Or the Ridley Noah, Pinarello Paris, Madone, Tarmac, Orca, Synapse, Scott CR1, BMC, Time VXRS, Look 585 (595?), etc etc.
Was this the one that happened to catch your eye? I'm only speculating now, so please do tell.

Oh I remember, you had it posted here sitting atop some lush green mountains in Europe. Italy? Austria? Refresh my memory. You've got the one with the blue/silver hex/slash airbrush pattern? A member of my MS150 team has one, I saw his for the first time last year, loved it. He'll be riding it (hopefully somewhere far behind me) in my areas largest triathlon this weekend.

Trust me, I'm not gonna spew the "plastic" rhetoric, I've got one of those "plastic" Kestrels.

Mostly a practical decision in that my LBS carries Giants. I want to support them, and its a good deal price wise. They're a great shop, and always take care of me. (Their whole region is only getting 3 TCR Advanced Teams for the year, and they're holding one for me).

Based upon the review earlier this year in Velonews, the Giant TCR Advanced was pretty comparable wieight and stiffness to the other 2 lb carbon bikes they tested (Scott, BMC, Look 585, Cervelo) The new Giant TCR Advanced Team with the integrated seat post should be lighter, and stiffer than last year's TCR Advanced, fairly comparable to a Look 595.

Another factor is my LBS has sold CF Giants and Treks for a number of years. In that time frame they've had to replace under warranty a number of Treks. They have never had a warranty claim on a Giant CF. I think there may be something to the claim that Giant is the most knowledgeable CF builder.

If I was picking any bike on the market, it wouldn't be the Giant, ( in fact I was leaning heavily toward a Cervelo , but the shop that carries tehm locally dropped them, and then I was thinking Look 595 mailorder, but I'd be too embarassed to show up at the shop rides with a mailorder bike) but I think its definitely in the ball park with other top of the line CF bikes, and at the price point ($5,000, $1,000 off MSRP) and with great local support, I think it's a reasonable decision.

Whichever one matches your eyes. Or the purse you intend to carry if you go with the pink one.

good memory.

it was a pic of my bike in the dolomites, which 90+ years ago was part of Austria, but circa 1918 has been Italy.

have to admit, i'd rather have a monochromatic look (whether that's nude carbon, or paint, doesn't matter).

Ok Merlin, sounds reasonable. Do you get the Dura Ace deep wheels with it? If so, that'd be shweeeet.
I don't know what I'd do about the pink stripes though.... not that I'm a homophobe, or overcompensating my manliness, but I just don't care for pink, but my wife loves it, that should say it all. I refuse to wear the pink dress shirts that some sissy decided a couple of years ago was the new "in" color for the well dressed businessman.

Maybe I'd immediately have the stripes airbrushed white. I think Rad has an expeditious painter...

I actually sorta like the T-Mobile scheme...the blue just doesn't look right

Plus at the end of a race, all the other guys got beat by a guy on a pink bike...pink streamers on the handlebars optional

I'd get the clear coated T-mobile frame, at least you get to see more of the CF you paid for.
Are you sure the T-Mobile frame that you picture is 2007 spec and is available. In OZ the 2007 spec is the blue white and grey frame, there is no "magenta ring" TCR Advanced frame in the line up.

I'm curious! Why you would ask such a question. It is your money. Buy the color you like.
If you honestly need someone else to tell you what color to buy, you are riding for the wrong reasons.

But, since you are asking, I don't like either!
