my new (homemade) bag

hurray! i just made this bag out of canvas. it took a couple of days, ive waterproofed it with floor varnish....put adjustable straps on it, a secret zip(stash) pocket on the inside....
im fairly pleased. of course it wont be as good as a proper messenger bag, but it will be good for me i rekon. plus, its super cool and stylish coz i made it!
what do you people think?

Very nice! I did the same thing back in high school except I used some of this blue fabric that my parents used as a carpet runner. It was a basic bag with a flap. I think I even used it as a messenger bag when I first got hired! Been thinking of making another one. You've inspired me to do so!

Next time I'm at class in the art building at my university I'm taking the worst abandoned painting I can find from the storage room and doing something like this. I just have to get the canvas off the stretcher and sew. It would already be waterproof from the layer of terrible tacky painting on top.

I'd probably just accidentally pick up one of my old paintings though!

Yeah, with canvas soaked in floor varnish, wouldn't that be just a tiny bit flammable as hell? The bag does look interesting though. Is there a cross strap for stability? And could you please post a picture of this stash pocket you speak of?

In Manchester, the bag will likely never dry out enough to burn, hence the need for heavy duty waterproofing. In Britain they have been impregnating cotton with boiled animal fat for centuries and calling it a 'waxed jacket'. Nobody has spontaneously combusted yet.

I don't know if you know about this guy Brandon Bird, but you and him must have a cosmic connection.

Hey, nice bag.... My mom taught me how to sew when I was a kid. The skill comes in handy from time to time. Carridice should come out with messenger bags. I dig their waterproof cotton duck material. I've got their panniers and saddlebag.

no cross strap because i havnt got a buckle thing for that. and velcro wouldnt work.
heres a pic of the 'stash' pocket...its just a zip on the back that leads to the inside.
i dont stash anything these days though , although maybe it would be useful at some point...

Very nice. Almost looks like some old WWII relic. You should be on some old 1940's BMW motorcycle...like the ones in Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade.
