Bought a new TT this week and got a pretty good deal it. Turns out it's an 08 model not an 09 though. Wasn't told that upfront, so that kind of sucks to find that out on my own. Also found out that I got an old set of used, ultegra 6500, 9 speed derailleurs instead of the 6600 that it was supposed to come with. Came with scrapes, rust, and all. I didn't really look too hard at that, as it was a NEW bike, and you shouldn't have to look at these things. I'm bringing up to the shop today. Hopefully they say it was all a big mixup and get me some new derailleurs. Wow...

I'd take it back, get my money back, and go find a new bike shop.

Take it back for sure. Sounds like you got ripped off!

I would definitely punt and shop elsewhere. "Pretty good deal" doesn't sound good enough for obviously used parts.

Would be nice if you paid with a CC. Might have a little ammo? I'd be a little more than pissed if it was not made clear.

If you were not told that it was used equipment, I'd say you were defrauded. If you were defrauded, you can just call the credit card company and dispute the charge if the bike shop doesn't make it right with you.

The credit card company will take the charge off your bill, and take it up with the bike shop. The bike shop will hate you forever. If you need a friend, get a dog.

Talked to the owner, apparently it was a mixup. The original derailleurs were pulled off to sell to a customer as he had none in stock, so he put those on till he got some new ones in. He's got the new ones waiting for me at the shop.

So far I've had a couple wheel truing's, and bought several tubes, bar tape, a saddle, ceramic bb, crank set, aero helmet, stem, had a bike fit done, and now purchased a tt bike. I've always been treated more than fair there, and I've been given discounts without asking on all of my purchases. I think it was an honest mistake.

Thanks for the update. It's good to know when something was just a misunderstanding/oops vs. a shop actively trying to screw you over.

You'd think he could have told you that up front.

Yea, I would have thought so too. It does sound a little shady...

Either way, I am getting my parts today, and I'm hoping to still use them to get an '10 Opal or equivalent.

It's possible that someone that didn't know the owner's plan sold it without asking about it. Bike shops can be really busy this time of year. It sounds like an honest mistake.

When you say "LBS" do you mean the back of some dude's '71 El Camino or a real store?

seriously, take it back, demand your money back. If they don't cooperate, make a ruckus.

Nevermind. Just read the explanation.

I wonder what would have happened if you never noticed the problems.

Yeah, it's a mixup now that you've realised.

I give bikes shops a whole lot of leeway and generally think you guys are a big bunch of whiners who are pissed that everything isn't cheap or free, but this is totally sketchy.
