Today I saw this big truck with a huge sign on the trunk promoting a new brand of condoms... and a couple of hot chicks giving condoms for free...

A Baltimore oriole(feathered type) in Patapsco State park. These birds are getting very rare.

I saw a locked gate late last night on the Hudson River Greenway. Then I saw red, if you know what I mean. The security guys half a mile (less?) away were kind enough to open the gate for me... because they're sooooo nice ( actually one was asleep and the other made no sense but grudgingly hopped in their security SUV to unlock it for me).

Today; a few addicts with the nods, broken glass, some drunks and a few hookers...wait, I see that everyday.

Today - saw a Mini (new model) in the ditch, nose up and on it's side after what must have been a spectacular spin. Bad start to the day for someone... and I'm glad I wasn't on the road anywhere near this incident when it happened.

Today I saw an old man with two plastic tubs of cat food in each hand that he was putting out for the strays. There are TONS of wild cats surrounding one stretch of bike trail I follow that leads near a dry creek bed in the middle of suburbia.

And Ed -- I'm glad you weren't around when that Mini crashed too. Yikes!

I saw a black cat walking off the side of the road. A truck was passing me and I was a little worried it would startle the cat into my path. Instead, the cat looked over it's shoulder, saw the truck, and kept walking. Then it looked over it's shoulder again, saw me with my lights and orange Alert Shirt, and it arched it's back and got up on its toes, then took off running into the woods!

So I guess this means I'm meaner looking than a pickup truck!

I saw an out of control 2 liter Coke bottle emerge from a minivan at 60mph, and soak my front wheel. Sticky Coke made my front brake screech real good every time I used it all the way to work.

I saw a spectacular lightning storm this morning out over the Atlantic on my way in this morning. It was just filling the sky, but too far away to actually hear any thunder...

Woke up an hour early today. Went outside to stretch and do a little Yoga, and wow did the 75 degree weather feel nice (we've been topping out at a humid 95 for the last couple of days). So I figured what the heck lets bike to work an hour early. Its great how that small change in time completely changes your commute.

Mainly different birds is what I notticed, NPR did a report on listening to bird songs, and the guy they talked to uses a bike.

Anyway I saw a beautiful sky this morning. Gorgeous clouds, and stars with the rays of sun peeking over the eastern horizon. No dead animals today, and I spooked at least six rabbits. I love how they run along in front of you madly dashing from side to side. hehe. I chuckled for almost half of my commute.

Also what I didn't see: Not a single car passed me going either direction. Now that was nice.

A raccoon ramming my front fender. Somehow, I stopped, and he (she?) ran between the front wheel and my front gears. I felt the fur on my leg. He (?) knocked the SKS fender out of place, but it snapped right back where it belonged. He (?) ran away, apparently no worse for the wear.

Yesterday a groundhog was nosing out onto the road as I approached. I slowed down a bit, and fortunately, he thought better of it, turned around, and ambled back into the brush.

I saw a DUI-looking ride who was good at wheelies!! But he had it in a low gear so after showing off with a few wheelies, I dusted him easily. Darn, I wish I were good at wheelies...

Then, where I was going, saw a guy on a bike with crazy hair and thought it was this one guy I keep running into who bikes everywhere, some weird eastern-european guy who looks like hell but is really cool, so I said "Hi, my hero!" but it was another guy.

And after buying my daily electronics junk, came out and the bike guy was still there, thet heavily loaded pickup truck he was by was his, and his MTB is the "shuttle craft" apparently, something about how the truck won't start and it needs to be charged up a bit, frankly it sounds like his charging system has problems. I guess the guy's figuring it out......

Lots of traffic on Kifer near Lawrence, but isn't it cool how Hendy leads to Kifer, I didn't know that until today :-)

This (see pic below) is what I saw on my commute today because I drove. My legs were sore, it was looking like rain, (insert lame excuse here), so I chose to drive to work and got caught in a bumper to bumper traffic jam that went for as long as the eye could see. The commute took me 20 minutes LONGER than if I would have just sucked it up and rode in. Lesson learned.

On my way back home today I got pasted by a motorcyclist. He was riding a semi-Harleyish kinda bike. About a 1.5mile down the road I notice that the traffic in my direction had stopped. As I creep along the side, I see the motorcyclist on the ground with his motorcycle in the middle of the street. The guy was laying flat on his back, and someone was using a towel to sheild him from the sun. His bike appeared to have a bent up fork. All I could think to myself after that was . . . "Man, I just saw that guy doing fine" BTW, I didn't see any car involved . . . maybe a hit and run. Needless to say, I drove home a little more careful.
So, that's what I saw today.

I could see a cold wet front moving in. 10 minutes from work it hit, swirling leaves about. I've always enjoyed that, it's quite rare in these parts. A few minutes later the rain hit, but I was still happy from the cold wind that I enjoyed the rain too.

Later I climbed a hill and rode over an iron manhole cover. The rear wheel spun out suddenly on the wet iron, I thought I'd broken the freewheel (recently replaced, an unknown brand).

I saw a guy riding a crotch rocket and attempting wheelies at 50mph or so. I would never wish a bad thing on a fellow human being; on the other hand, I wouldn't have wept if he'd gone down. Dumbass.

Today's my day off. Tonight, I'm doing the first four hours of a road course -- the classroom part. Then tomorrow we go out on the road and learn a little maintainance. I'm really looking forward to the class. I've already learned a lot from experience and this board but now I'll be a certified (there's a test involved!) expert!

I saw a deer in the grassy area behind the Holocaust Museum, near 15th and Independance. With all of DC's traffic, I hope he made it alright.

I almost hit a DEER broadside. She came out into the road and never saw me until I was about 10 feet a way. You should have see the look in her eye's. When she took off her feet were just a slipping on the pavement.
