Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Scandium explained.

https://www.norco.com/05/news/archives/9907_easton.htm

The article was published in July 1999. Most comprehensive article on the subject I have found so far.
According to the article, "Scandium is still in its infancy as a developing product"
From what I read, this means the availability of alloy will be increased and the price will be lower and the compound of the alloy will be further experimented to suite different uses. For now, the material is still very rare and hard to extract. If the mining industry start rolling and the size of the business increases, then the cost of pure scandium will be lower. I'm guessing so called Scandium alloy will be placed below titanium, possibly just little over other aluminum alloy, cost wise. Currently, scandium bicycles are priced higher than full carbon bicycle. After all, so called scandium is made of mostly aluminum, so it should be called aluminum alloy with scandium. I go a step further, in the future, now so called scandium alloy will may be simply called aluminum alloy in general in the bicycle industry. It will probably take next 20 years or so. I think all other materials such as carbon fiber, titanium, steel will co exist in different form on the bicycles. By then, we'll maybe seeing some form of carbon nanotube application. Let your imagination go wild.
