why not have a splined fixed hub?

level have made the bolt on fixed hub and miche have a splined cog system but is it not logical to have a hub that is splined like a free-hub body? if the cog simply pushed on and the lock ring held it in place you would not have the forces present that try to rotate the cog off the hub (i know the rotational force would still be there but it would remain perpendicular to the hub body and not be directed 'off' the hub by threads).

The Miche carrier is known for developing play. If you're going to reinvent the cog, you might as well do something like what Level is doing. Of course their cogs only go down to 15t, so that would need to change.

Oh yeah, and you can always use a trials hub: https://webcyclery.com/product.php?pr...cat=419&page=1 though you'll get mtb spacing and chainline.

A cassette style lock ring would allow you to run small cogs but I think play would be a big problem. If the cog can rotate it may loosen the lock ring over time.
One solution to that would be tapered splines and a press fit like the isis interface but who wants a press fit cog?

I think it would work if you made the splines hella deep, but that's probably not a viable option. Splined cogs for freehubs work okay if they have a thick base (like the new Surly's and Chris Kings), but narrow ones (like Shimano DX) tend to dig in, and that means play. I'm guessing that this is the same problem that Miches have, and adding in the reverse pressure only accentuates it. So, deep splines would help. But that'd require a company to do a totally new thing, like Level has, only Level did it better. Good for them.
