My buddy and i are on a pranking streak right now so ive been thinking of good harmless things i can do to him. His wife will give me access to his bike so im thinking i might fill his tires with water. Im thinking the easiest way to accomplish this is would be to use a cheap pump and unscrew it and fill the chamber with water. Any other ideas of what i could do? I put an add on craigslist for a free bag of potatoes and he got 10 calls within 5 minutes so im thinking i should lay low for a bit.

I'm all about practical jokes, but start messing (mod edit) with my bike and yo're likely to get a punch to the neck...

You've got a good idea with the pump but you need a way for the air in the tube to get out. I'd cut a hole in the opposite side of the tube, then fill it most of the way with water with you pump idea. If it's dry enough and you didn't fill it too much, you can patch the cut on the tube and reinstall on the bike. Then maybe you can add some extra water to make it seem like the tires aren't flat.

Messing with a mans bike is like messing with a mans wife, sister or daughter...

A really good prank would be to sleep with his wife while you're there.

If you're really bent on doing this, then I would think the easiest way to fill the tires with water is to take the inner tube off, remove the valve core (you can get valve caps with a bit on the end to unscrew the core. I have one on my bike, although I don't know where a person can get them. Automotive shop or something, maybe?), twist the inner tube so that the stem is pointing up, and I would imagine that you could fill it with water. Replace the valve, put the tubes back on, and you're done.

A couple of tips to consider in this prank:
1.) Make sure he is not planning on doing a big, major ride when you do this. Perhaps do this, and then shortly after ask him to accompany you on a bike ride so that you can catch his reaction. After all, that's the best part of doing a prank.
2.) Don't use his inner tubes. Get some cheap ones from your LBS or Walmart. That way, if he has good, pricey tubes, you don't wreck them.

Edit: If it isn't bad to ride your bike like this (ie, it doesn't wreck the wheels or anything), it could make a good way to train.

Try completely submerging the pump in water. That way it will draw in water instead of air. It might be tricky and you'll probably need to use a floor pump (or take his wheels off and stick them in a bathtub) but it should work.

I have no problem with anyone pulling a good prank on me AS LONG as it does not involve my precious. **** with that and I will kill whoever touched it. Come up with a different idea, please.

If someone filled my tires with water I'd think it's freakin' hilarious! You guys need to lighten up.

You guys really need to lighten up - ive heard riding a bike tends to loosen people up. Him and his wife just had a baby so the only time he rides is with me. I like the idea of putting the pump in the water - ill test it out tonight.

sounds like a great idea to me. whoever suggested the submerging the pump was on the right track. A slightly "less cool" thing to do might be to pull the seat tube and fill his frame with water. I'm guessing the reaction to that might be a big stronger.

Here's another fun one. Do you have an old cassette? file the nubs off the middle gears (say 16-ish) and then swap it out for his. He'll be spinning along, shift and then be putting NO POWER to the wheels (this may hurt the freehub body though). just throwing ideas out of the top off my head

Even if you're successful at what you are thinking about, it really would not be that funny. Seriously, you can do much better. Try filling a paper bag with canine fecal matter, put it on his front porch, light the bag on fire, then ring his door bell and run. That would be much funnier.

okay, mark where his seatpost is set (so you don't screw up his seat height), and then take it off. tie a washer or other small, hard object to a string, and then tape the string to the inside of his seatpost. let the washer hang into his seat tube, reinstall seatpost, and watch him go nuts trying to figure out what that noise is on your next ride.

I still think you should sleep with his wife while you're over there. I just don't feel like you've given that idea enough consideration as a practical joke.

To the OP: if you insist on pranking, I think you'll need to be sure that the water in the tubes is pressurized - otherwise, you won't be fooling him for even five seconds.

i have a friend who's very competetive. we both got our bikes at the same time from the same LBS. i knew that later that night, he'd want to weigh both our bikes to see who had the lightest bike.

so, before he came over- i took off my seat tube and dropped about 9 "C" cell batteries down my seat tube.

when he came over- we had a beer... bs'd for a half hour... and then he asked to use the scale as he was curious about the weight of his bike. one thing leads to another--

the funny thing is- he now knows he has this svelte 15.5 lbs bike... and he THINKS i've this 18+lbs POS...

so its TWICE as demoralizing when i out sprint him or beat him up a hill.


just an example of a safe prank where you mess with OWN stuff and it turns out to be more effective.

If you started with a new Tube, or took an old one and rolled it up first most of the air would be gone. If you filled them about half, you could still mount them, then finish with air.
