My goal right now is doing well in the crit at Cascade in a few weeks.. so up until then, I want as much intensity as possible!! Yes the results won't be pretty on the way, but hopefully the result that counts will be prettier.

A while back I heard a 107mm rocket tumbling through the air while I was riding the stationary bike in a tent.
You are alive, well, have two well formed legs (I see polio and land mine survivors every day), live in the United States, presumably a college education, and have enough disposable income to race bikes for fun.
You have literally won the lottery of life. Please reflect on that today.

Thank you for your service.
Today I was supposed to do 2 hours of tempo. Temps are in the low 90's with oppressive humidity. The first 30 minutes went fine. Around 45 minutes in, I started to get nauseous. Then the side stitch came. At 48 minutes I started to grey out. I backed off, doused my head with water, and hit it again. Two minutes later the shakes started. I backed off again, and kept it going until I hit 60 minutes. At that point I knew I had to go hose hunting. Ten minutes later I found a guy washing his truck. I sprayed myself down for five minutes and refilled my three bottles. Hit the lap counter on the 800 and decided to go as hard as I could without triggering the symptoms again. That ended up to be high endurance with some tempo at times.
Heatstroke is nothing to mess with. There's TSS, and there's stupid TSS. Be careful out there.

Well, I've had a serious head injury and I sometimes drink too much, so guilty. I remember back in 1987 racing Fitchburg in the P/1/2 field in weather a lot like this. I ignored the greying out and wound up blacking out. Right before this I rode my bike into the crowd. I woke up soaked with people hovering over me.

Recovery week...
Today was a 90min light endurance ride with one 8min effort. Tomorrow 60min recovery ride, might throw in a couple opener type efforts since I have a club 20km TT on Saturday...

six times up a +/-6' hill, seated power.
times were comparable with what I've seen in the past, and I didn't stand until the last 30" of the last interval.
another +200TSS ride, hope this turns into results at some point.

I lost consciousness in a running race many years ago after ignoring heat stress symptoms. If you have dry skin with Goosebumps even though you feel like you are on fire, stop exercising!
I woke up in an ambulance and was diagnosed with exercised induced heat stroke leading to a severe drop in blood pressure. My case ended up pretty mild as far as heat stroke goes but it still really sucked. Thankfully my rhabdo was mild and resolved quickly, only had one dark pee.
I'll gladly DNF 500 times before I'll let that happen again.

2:30 last night with 1:45 of that a group ride. Well, 30 minutes with the A group until I got dropped (heart was coming out of my chest.. ouch) then the rest following a guy who didn't want me to pull at all and just drilled it the whole time. I don't know how he didn't drop me, I wouldn't let him, but that was the most pain I've gone through in very long time! I've had 4 week of barely riding, and when I did it was with my dad below endurance level, so I've got some training to get back to.
Also, I wore my HR monitor last night during my sleep... interesting stuff.

Here I'm about to put in an hr ez here to pick up a clothing order. I'll ride the fixed, 42/18t, easy-peasy, with some ab work when I get home. Tmrrw will net a short hike, and 2.5 hrs or so mostly below z3 on Sunday will round out this rest week. My hamstrings are already unnervingly soft and not stiff right now.

I got up early and did my 2 sets of 6 x 3'SST/30" L6 surge. I don't have my PT wheel working, so it was all on RPE. I have the HR monitor hooked up, but didn't look at it during the workout. When comparing it to the last time I did this workout, I think I did a pretty good job of it. The efforts look damned near the same on the HR data (which can be terribly misleading...). Speed data looks reasonable as well. My butt-o-meter says it hurt. That's good enough for me.
On vacation with the family now (drove all day). I wanted to bring a bike, but decided against it. I did bring running shoes and 2 kettlebells. That's enough to get me in trouble, I'm guessing. I probably won't be able to walk in a day or 2.

Did the club 20km TT this morning...
Set a PB of 29:56...Garmin said the average speed was 39.9kmh, almost got it!
It's a flat course, total elevation gain was 13m, and the wind was favourable,,

Checked out the top of Mt. Tamalpias' East peak today on the club ride. 1:20 z2, 0:40 z3, 1:05 z4 and a few minutes of anaerobic. Picked up a few PRs despite mostly head and crosswind.
I think it's now safe to say I've reached and surpassed pre-crash fitness levels. Who can I expect to see at Watsonville?
